Best Daddy

Is this not the most adorable card?

I must give credit where credit is due. The women who run the nursery in our ward at church are amazing! They always have the cutest things for holidays and this Father's Day card is no exception.

I love it because it wonderfully encapsulates two things I love the most. It honors my amazing husband — who is a terrific father and a spectacular guy in general — and it depicts my adorable daughter in a hilariously cute kind of way.

Happy Father's Day honey!

And a Happy Father's Day to my own wonderful father and my father-in-law. I'm so lucky to have such great men in my life.

Time for TWO

Having one child has been such an amazing blessing, we decided that two must certainly be twice as wonderful.

That's right — we're expecting baby number TWO!

It's been a bumpy road getting to this point so we are beyond thrilled to finally be able to announce such good news.

I'm currently 19 1/2 weeks along and thanks to an ultrasound today we even know the gender.

Drum roll, please...

It's a BOY!!!

We're so excited (and of course a little nervous) about the prospect of doubling our offspring, but what a blessing it is! Seeing this child's sweet little form on the ultrasound screen today was a beautiful reminder of just how remarkable this entire process is. I'm so grateful to be part of it.

If all goes according to schedule, we'll be welcoming this little boy to our family around Nov. 2, 2012.

Hooray!

Big girl bed

This little girl was finally ready to move out of her crib!

I'm not sure what the normal age is to move a child from a crib to a toddler bed, but it feels like the majority of my friends have done so with their children far earlier than we did with Lydia. However, since she showed absolutely no interest in sleeping elsewhere and didn't try to climb out of her crib, I saw no reason to hurry the process.

You just can 't beat having your child safely "caged" at night, right?

Well, on Sunday, June 3, Lydia decided it was time to move on.

We laid her down for her nap Sunday afternoon and a few minutes later she came running into the living room to announce to Derek and I that "I'm a big girl! I climbed out!"

Evidently, she was ready.

Not wanting to miss out on nap time by switching her bed right then, we told her if she would show us how big she was by staying in her bed for nap, we would give her a "new" bed that night.

Ya, that didn't work so well.

She climbed out four or five more times when finally Derek had enough and turned her door knob around and locked the door.

Holy cow! Did that make her mad.

We had a full screaming fest going on in her room. But thanks to the amazing technology of a video monitor (hands down still one of the most sanity-saving pieces of baby equipment we bought) we could see she was safe and so we let her cry.
Eventually, she climbed back into her crib and had a nap.
That evening, as promised, we made the switch.

She was so excited! And although that first night was rough — more for me than her... I cried because she is growing up so quickly — she's done extremely well.

And so, another milestone has come and gone.

She is such a darling little girl!

Texas wrap up

Life just seems to be a little too hectic lately for my taste — thus delaying my remaining Texas post. At last, here it is.

Go Rangers!

On May 15 we took in a Texas Rangers game during our stay. While I'm not a televised sports fan by any means (except the Olympics) I do enjoy live athletic events. There's something so thrilling about the sights, sounds and smells of a live baseball game.

I worried Lydia would lose interest in the game after a couple of innings, but she did surprisingly well. How can you not be intrigued when your mom is pointing out insightful baseball things, such as "Hey, Lydia, let's watch to see if this guy can catch the ball." My sports knowledge is unparalleled.
Lydia's two favorite things from the evening were the man walking up and down the aisle yelling "Hot dogs!" and the man a few rows in front of us with a blue wig.
To the hot dog seller she kept laughing and saying, "He said 'hot dog!'" and then she'd giggle like crazy. Even weeks later she still says it, in a pretty good impression of the salesman.
Lydia once again refusing to pose for a picture.

Sadly, the Rangers didn't win the game, but let's be honest, I was just there for the social experience.

Oh to be young again!

Then next few days went by in a blur or park visits, yummy meals, swimming, a street fair and lots of late night visits with my family. One of the nights the girls left the kids home with the dads and went to see the BYU Folk Dancers perform. Such a fun girl's night out.
I'm so glad we were able to spend some time in Texas!

One of the parks we went to has this awesome elyptical machine — presumably for parents to use while their kids play. Genius.

On our way home

{May 19, 2012}

Lydia was an absolute angel on the flight home. She was SO excited to get home to see her Daddy. As was I.
While waiting in the airport I found a reason to love DFW Airport — they have a play place for kids in terminal C. Brilliant!
